Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII vs 49ers 34-31
So the Ravens won their second Super Bowl in team history. Either you love it or you hate it. I’m not the biggest fan of Ray Lewis ranting and raving after the win, but it was definitely a compelling game. For those of you who weren’t watching (for whatever reason) it was all in the Ravens favor at the beginning of the game. Their defense was strong, Joe Flacco was precise, and Jacoby Jones gashed the 49ers for a 108 yard TD return. All of the momentum was in their favor and then… the lights. The lights in half of the stadium went ou with 13:22 left in the third quarter and during the approximately thirty minute delay, while staff and NFL officials tried to figure out what happened and fix it, the 49ers tried to get it together.
Whatever coach Jim Harbaugh said to his guys worked, because they came out of the break firing. The 9ers brought the score to within 2 at 29-31, but failed to secure a two point conversion to tie the game. The Ravens were able to hold off the 49ers advance though with a long offensive drive. It looked like the 9ers might force a three and out but an incredible catch by Anquan Boldin on 3rd and 9 continued the possession. Flacco continued to drive the ball down the field and did his part to secure a field goal. The rest is history. The 49ers had a strong second half but it wasn’t enough to regain all the ground they had given up in the first half. Kaepernick completed 16 of 28 for 246 yards, but Joe Flacco completed 22 of 33 for 287 yards to put the edge in favor of the Ravens.
Ray Lewis got his Super Bowl is his final game and however galvanizing of a figure he is some part of me is still inspired that he won, but to speak truly the Ravens won this game with team effort.
